Today was Armistice Day ...
today I thought about my maternal grandfather RDJ ...
born 1895.
He was in France during WW1 ...
his war record tells me ...
RDJ returned home "gassed".
My Mum was his only child ...
her life was never the same when ...
her Dear Dad was killed ...
on his way home from work in 1935.
He stood to give a lady his seat ...
in the open smoking compartment of a Bondi tram ...
the tram lurched ...
RDJ was thrown into the tracks of an oncoming tram ...
he received herendous injuries ...
he died soon after.
I found this photo ...
in a file on our family ...
in a local studies library ...
whilst researching our family history.
I'd only ever seen photo's of RDJ ...
the older my Mum got ...
the more she talked about her Dad.
When I saw this photo I cried!
Check out the little dog cocking it's leg on the tent ...
it makes a serious moment fun doesn't it?
One day I'll show you ...
the beautiful pottery and embroidery by RDJ.
Hope everyone spent a minute ...
remembering someone special ...
at 11am today.
