Sustainable Fashion = Christopher Raeburn's Upcycled Military + M & M Wrapper Gown

Christopher Raeburn sources his fabrics from decommissioned military stock, including British combat jackets and deadstock parachutes that fail to pass opacity or wind-resistance tests.
His wearable yet luxe looks, which are at once ethereal and hardwearing, are inundated with shocks of high-voltage orange and pure white amid heavily textured greens, mustards, and creams
see his archives here

M & M Wrapper Gown ...

To create the gown, more than 1,800 flowers were individually cut and sewn from 600 Peanut M&M wrappers, a time-consuming process that took over 100 hours of labor.
(Five yards of silk charmeuse and silk shantung were used for the lining.)

Christina Liedtke’s wearable artwork depicts flowers in bloom: The top of the dress displays the initial budding, while the middle portrays a “landscape of blooming vibrant poppies,” according to the designer. “Finally, the bottom of the dress expresses a collage of fully bloomed mature flowers,” she adds.

Crisis averted with $5 for 20G ... Beware ... don't get bloggingwell caught ...

♥♥ A HUGE THANKS to the Darlings who averted my panic re no space for photo's ...

I've coughed up five smackeroonies for 20G ...
and will resume blogging when the powers that be release the said space to my realm!

Now I'd be eternally grateful for tips on how to make JPEG photo's smaller on this PC.

Despite the big picasa saying 20G = 10,000 photo's ...
trust them, no way...
look where that got me with Blogger!

I'm able to cater for a function for a thousand people ...
but unable to manage the gobble-de-gook associated with images, internet, etcetera ...
it drives me nuts ...
any tips will be massively appreciated!

Is this my next home ... if only = Shelf-Pod by architect Kazuya Morita

MJ asked "is this my new home?"
not for everyone ... perfect for Moi!

The story is ...
Shelf-pod is the creation of architect Kazuya Morita, who converted just about every available surface of a home's interior into shelves for a man who was having trouble housing his extensive book collection. The space in Moruguchi City, Japan, provides maximum storage space without sacrificing the openness of the room ... more here

Sydney weather = heatwave + Blossom, air con + sewing ...

At 1 am, Sunday Feb 5, the Sydney weather bureau says it's currently ...

31.2°C
Yes it reached 40 degrees in Sydney at 5pm today!

Blossom couldn't have perched any closer to me ...
maybe she wanted to thank me that we were in 26 degrees ...

or remind me ...

heatwaves, air con and sewing do mix!

Saturday 5 February 2011

Old frames = recycled = notice board = home or office = loving these ...

Friday 4 February 2011

What a week = heatwave + cyclone + Lori = ultimate sadness ... I tried to keep it light ...

I'm a bit ticked off with blogging!

All week, despite the horrors, I've posted light heartedly ...
with little response ...
is it the weather?
or ...
are people thinking I'm a hard hearted biatch?

Those who know me will tell you I'm far from that!

The monotonous whirr of the air con is almost sending me nuts ...
the noise and the coolness has kept me on the move ...
creating, accomplishing, walking in the heat.

Inside here sounds like an engine room ...
yet it's impossible to live without ...
my heart hurts with so much bad news ...
but deep down my heart knows how blessed I am.

Hope you have a lovely weekend ...
spare a moment for beautiful, brave Lori ...
the weather ravaged Queenslanders ...
and never forget how blessed you are too!

North Head part 2 ... Flora + Fauna + Biggest Loser HQ ...

High above, swinging like trapeze artiste's, were webs ...
huge webs ...
with any number of spiders with yellow stripes ...
against an azure sky with not a cloud in sight ...
spiders were everywhere ...
the undergrowth was grey, sparse ...
the life drained out of it by the salt air ...
yet still beautiful ...
like a bush land grave yard ...
an odd burst of colour magnified the beauty of nature ...
yellow and green an aussie tradition ...
looked beautiful and nourished ...
by comparison ...
loving the extremes ...
grasses dehydrated ...
banksia men emerging ...
spiders looming ...
the patterns and textures fascinated!
We rounded a bend and there was ...
formerly The School of Artillery ...
how many times we'd seen both entrances ...
across the oval where ...
we smiled at the gloriousness of it all!
