The media are creating a furore about Rachel Fiere's gown ...
made from 3000 cow nipples!
At first I was EeUuWwwwww ...
on a closer look I saw the beauty ...
and thought ...
this is no different to anything made from leather.
After reading ...
Freire, who obtains her materials from tannery waste, doesn’t comprehend the outrage. “All of the leather used is a byproduct of the meat industry and the nipples are a byproduct of that leather production,” she writes on her Facebook wall. “Their use is absolutely no different to any use of leather, the source is exactly the same. To specifically attack me for using the most narrative part of the animal seems strange when everyone who uses leather is doing exactly the same thing, it is just more abstract and therefore more socially acceptable

I think its amazing. They'd only be discarded otherwise and one good thing about art is that it creates discussion!
3000 cow nipples....four nipples per cow....there's 750 cows wandering around now with no nipples?
It just kind of feels a little odd to me. I'm not saying it is wrong, but I couldn't do it or wear it. Wonder if she will start collecting bull testicles leather next? They are probably harder to come by, given most male calves are castrated.
