My Place & Yours :: Things in your home that make you smile ...

Hayley is the Theme Queen for this week and asks ::
~the things in your home that make you smile~

EVERYTHING in my home makes me smile ...
My Smile get's bigger when I see ...
Pics of my girls ...
like this one ...
I took from behind them ...
out for a girls only dinner, in Newtown, the other night!
Blossom, who's an inside only cat, makes me smile more too.
She came to me from the vet after being rescued from some dastardly situation. She's highly strung, easily frightened, most noises upset her. She's very vocal when I come back inside even after only putting out the rubbish.
She makes me smile many times a day when she 'talks' ...
Before she came home in 2007 the vet had to remove a chip that had been put in her incorrectly ...
I know, I shudder to think ...
... here she is right now as I write this post  ...
Blossom's snoring plus the wind and rain outside is music to my ears.

My entire life and everything in my home makes me smile ...
I'm blessed.

Flea Market Finds ...

This very old & battered, tiny leather purse measures 6 cms x 3.5 cms ...
I'm told it's a 'Sovereign holder' ...
the two holders are on a silver base and are well sprung so sovereigns will never dislodge ...
more reseach required on this one ...
cost a mere $5.

Six gorgeous brass napkin rings $2 ...
and don't ask me why I liked this ???
Probably part of an old industrial sewing machine ...
the larger wheel spins easily ...
and would have been operated using a leather belt  ...
at the other end is a similar bobbin threader /spindle ... cost $4.
It moves, is unusual & one day will be something interesting!
As always I'm a happy Flea Market finder ...
you'll see more wonderful finds at Sophie's here

we called them snot rags!

My Place and Yours ... Pre Loved, Inherited or Thrifted ...

Theme Queen for this week is Zoe at A Boys Mummy who's chosen ::
~ Pre loved-inherited or thrift-ed ~
Right up my alley Zoe ...
almost my entire existance, my life, my blog title ...
here comes under those headings...
here's a glimpse ...
a small chest made by my Dad when he worked the PMG Workshops in 1950s -still showing the paint I splashed on it as a kid!
On top a glass jar of thrifted buttons ...
a thrifted depression glass container holding a plant ...
a thrifted oriental lady statue that cost 50 cents at a garage sale ...
this bust of my Mum by Raynor Hoff in 1925 ...
along side my Mum's and her Mum's sewing baskets ...
on top a small box of inherited drafting tools ...
my pile of hat boxes ...
three inherited and four thrifted ...
thrifted ducks on the wall all cost no more than $2 each ...
this lamp inherited in the 1970s ...
the swan inherited from my Grandma ...
When I inherited this chair I instantly had it reupholstered to remove the indentation of my Dad's butt crack that freaked me out ...
inherited this beautiful shell my Dad bought back from Darwin in 1945 ...
the timber case made by my Dad was unfortunately and embarrassingly my school bag ...
everything around it has been pre loved or thrifted ...
Inherited then had a new top made for my Grandma's Singer machine frame ...
saving the best to last ...
My gorgeous Blossom ...
three years ago I inherited her from my vet ...
something very bad had happened to her that I didn't want to know about ...
she's my much loved, trusty companion.

Flea Market Finds ... Wet & Cold = I Splurged ...

A beautiful cigar box measuring 38 x 20 x 5 cms ...
with a catch, divided inside ...
as well as being the largest one I've seen for a long time ...
how could you pass that by for $7 ...
a place to store more treasures ?
It was cold, bleak, drizzling rain ...
all I'd set out to get was a fresh, crispy, bunch of silverbeet ...
I almost fainted when I spied this huge, beautiful, tortoiseshell, barrette for $15!
(I respect and treasure my tortoiseshell collection ... see here)
How could I pass by these Flea Market finds ... see why I splurged?

Take a peek at more Flea Market finds at Sophie's.

Then ...
I remembered my recycled mens neckties awaiting transformation ...
and
my Bondi, most favourite, tie of all ...
my signature yellow gold bracelets ...
my bunch of gorgeous bananas
and
my grandma's yellow pot with the odd lid that I'll never part with!
It seemed such a hard task to begin with ;)

Jessica Watson a true Aussie hero ... tell your daughters about her ...

Her name was written across the clear blue sky ...
thousands waited around Sydney foreshores ...
... to welcome home ...
a courageous sixteen year old ...
who'd sailed solo, round the world ...
for 210 days ...
... glistening Sydney Harbour was packed full of excitement ...
pink was the colour of the day ...

Forget Paris, Kendra, Mylie and their way too much media attention ...

This is the face of hope,
the face all girls ...
 no matter their age ...
should aspire to!

Three resounding cheers for Jessica Watson ...
tell your daughters the Jessica Watson story ...
she's the ultimate role model.
