Why isn't there a hip and happening arts program with oodles

of funding for older, dusty armpitted artist wannabes?

Now I'm on the way to three score years and ten ...

invisibility is more apparent.

As I ponder Grrl's observations ...

 plus my own invisibility experiences ...

 my exhibiton photo's ...

remind me ...

I'm the oldest person I know!

Maybe the boost to my creative confidence has emerged ...

as a signal for me to wave the banner ...

to pose the question ...

to knock on doors ...

and ask ...

as Grrl does ... 

          isn't it time that more beautiful, talented, wise, older artists ...

are given the same opportunities ...

as those young-uns?

The same opportunities we never had ...

as our parents were tsk, ts, tsking ...

at the prospect of us wasting our lives on "ART" ...

while we waited to grow up ...

to emerge!

Flea Market Finds = one legged jean as = ART = balls = chain = waists = chenilled = art ...

In May last year I had one of my best Flea Market Finds ever ...

a pile of one legged denim jeans ...

(do you call them a jean?) ... here

that became part of my exhibiton ...

Tactile balls christened ...

"Theraputic" ...

no it's not a spelling error, creating them wasn't therapeutic either ...

the hem of each leg became a chain ...

"Are we there yet" ...

was all I kept thinking while I created ...

the waist bands became wall art ...

"Waisted Waste"

and from the earlier days of recycled denim ...

"Chenille" emerged!  

Those one legged jeans still have oodles of creating left in them ...

pockets, flys, seams, hardware, tags ...

all still un touched ...

not for long!

working the waist bands into a unique wall hanging ...

Earrings that became an art quilt ...

hand dyed, with delicate embroidery embellished with seed pearls

Kaffe cottons and antique crochet edging from New York ...

 recognise any of these ...  

has to be 'Fanta' for sure ...

 splashes of colour!

Vintage glass candle holders ...

holding gorgeous candles from Stacks of Wax ... 

Nana's beautiful vases  ...

upturned 70s meets 40s ...

a new use for compote's ...

floating candles ...

a tempting selection ...

of what was a collection.

these were "Theraputic" ...

sliced lengths of denim ...

from those one legged jean.

What do you call one leg of jeans ... is it a jean?

Yes the spelling is wrong ...

but so was life when I got to these ..

the hems of those one legged denims ...

trimmed ...

sewn as a chain ...

entitled ...

"Are we there Yet' ...

dedicated to all that I kept thinking!

where recently they held their annual tent sale ...

of gorgeous stuff they find in their travels ...

beautiful treasures abound ...

the contents of this gorgeous crib would have made me so happy.

All Saints Spitalfields = antique sewing machines by the hundreds & thousands ...

With head down, bum up doing plenty of pondering on my US escapade ...

one of the first OMG moments in L A ...

was at The Grove in Beverley Hills .

I stopped in my tracks, I gasped ...

a store window ...

with ...

hundreds & hundreds of antique sewing machines ...

stacked floor to ceiling ...

twenty machines high ...

anchored in scaffold ...

a store display ...

what was it ...

what did it all mean ???

There were All Saints stores in Vegas and New York ...

with the same 500 plus sewing machines ...

on display ...

every one gorgeously refurbished ...

all in immaculate condition ...

decals still glistening gold ...

sewing machine brands from days of olde!

Another amazing US moment ...

yet another sight to leave me gobsmacked!

Amazing ... you be the judge!

No food trucks when I was there a few weeks ago ...

but ...

my soujourn to HKFM took my breath away ...

yet again trusty camera in hand ...

gave me the excuse to OMG, to stand, to catch my breath ...

to realise I was actually there was overwhelming ...

a beaded chair ...

yes completely beaded ...

stopped me in my tracks ...

the amount of stuff ...

that most people call rubbish ...

had me OMG-ing to the max ...

HKF isn't a huge area ...

but the stuff was amazing and so very cheap ...

this gorgeous lady had great oriental stuff ...

huge chunks of old coral $1.00 a piece ...

silly me bought some ...

only to later realise ...

customs would never allow it in to Australia ...

look under her table ...

rear left hand side ...

see the brown antique leather hat box?

She sold it to me for $10.00 ...
OMG ...
I decided I'd use it as my aircrft carry on bag ...
but ...
by the time we got to LA ...
I was so over it ...
I gifted it to a lovely gal named Pearl ...
she was gob smacked ...
about the faux tortoise shell bracelet I gave her too!

Oooo how I adore a market where I lose all commonsense ...
I'll show you my flea market purchases ...
when my exhibiton is fini.
