2008 New Years Resolutions ~ Sunday Scribblings #92

Sunday Scribblings #92 prompt is "New" or "New Year" seeing as how I'm in PURGING mode I'm going to submit this from a couple of days ago on the exact topic! So much to do, so little time ...

The Sydney Daily Telegraph reports The UK's Mirror have released their take on the top 30 resolutions.

Here is a sample.

Eat broccoli, cauliflower or cabbage to cut bladder cancer. You only need to eat it three times a month to make a difference. But it has to be raw.

Chewing gum at 3pm cuts cravings and reduces appetite - meaning chewers eat about 36 less calories from their afternoon snack.

Hand exercises - strengthening your hands makes veins in your arms more elastic, which then makes blood pressure fall.

Cut down on mobile chat. We all know phones aren't great for you - and researchers recently discovered a 240 per cent increase in brain tumour risk for heavy mobile users.

Pepper - Not only is it packed with antioxidants, pepper stimulates digestion, increasing the amount of nutrients you absorb from everything else you eat. Now here is a strange one.

Move your printer and your lungs will thank you. Particles from ink can lodge deep in the lungs, leading to coughs and wheezing.

Munch some pistachios. Not only are nuts heart-healthy, America's Penn State University found people eating pistachios suffer less negative health effects from stress.

Add tomato sauce to everything! Three daily dabs of ketchup cuts levels of harmful cholesterol by 13 per cent in three weeks.

My New Years resolution for 2008 is ... PURGE ... what's yours?

this is lovely and I am going to use it as a model... ketchup 3x a day!!! Mmmm, even for a ketchup lover like me that may be a bit of a struggle.

I would like to purge my house from clutter. Clutter difuses my creativity.

hey great list! I didn't know about pepper and hand exercising! If I can't get me butt exercising, I know I can work on these hands! thanks and Happy New years purge!

I love your efficiency! What if I'm having oatmeal for breakfast though? Might make it a little hard to use the ketchup tip.

I'm with you! I intend to de-clutter in 2008. I've packed and moved the same unworn sweaters four times in seven years. No more! There will be no more consumer binging, just life simplifying purging from now on.

I'm following your inspirational lead!

I don't have any resolution but I do like your resolution - purge - sounds like a good idea. Hope you succeed.

Thanks for that! Some interesting information there - I wonder what the hand exercises are like, I think I need some.

On another note, I saw a documentary a while back comparing a group of people that did a detox diet and another that ate whatever they wanted, including coffee, chocolate, butter - the things you'd usually exclude in diets. Well, guess what? The researchers realized our liver and our kidneys are already used to getting rid of the toxins, so there was no difference between the 2 groups after 2 weeks of completely different diets. Made me think!!

That's a really great list. Another thing to do is to drink water. I've been trying to get back into the habit of drinking water after I wake up and before bed and with lunch.

Gosh, that's a great list but I don't know about purging. It sounds so final. Can I go back to chocolate after I decide broccoli just isn't my cuppa tea? :)

Wow! I found the part about increasing hand muscles to lower blood pressure extremely useful information. Thanks!

Good work!
Love the chewing gum best!
The only obstacle is that it's banned in Singapore.

Tomato sauce, huh? I can do that...

Wintertime always brings out my urge to purge. Something about being cooped up in the house with all of that crap I suppose.

It is so hard to purge when you live with a packrat...and we can't purge on my mom wh has OCD...but the thought is so nice to think about. Great entry.

I just found out that I do most. I do not have a printer, I do not talk much on my mobile phone and do all the others.

Thanks!

That's a useful list. Guess I have to take up chewing gum again! And not cook my broccoli? Ok. I'll eat it with pistachios and a dab of ketchup. And pepper all over!

If that was my list it would mean a complete life change - except of course for the ketchup which at times I'm in danger of OD-ing on!

yay I can now officially add tomato sauce to everything ;)

..watch the chewing gum thing though..it's not so hot for you...

thanks for stopping by my bloggy :)

Good purging list. I would question decreasing blood pressure just by hand exercises -- I would be interested in the information behind that. Good luck with purging!
