Hospital memories abound, emotions unravelled by this prompt.
Top teeth removed at twelve, baby removed at seventeen, visiting mother year after year, over and over again. From mid 1960s memories became happier. Not ovulating didn’t deter. Twelve months on, the cherished arrival of a beautiful baby. Mother kept the hospital system going for over forty years as she envisioned cancer, sadly it arrived.
A laminectomy, hemithyroidectomy, appendix, frozen shoulder, father crying wolf, lessons learnt; treat medico’s as real people, they’ll treat you that way in return!
The very best hospital memories will always be :
During the 60s & 70s Vince Edwards as Dr Ben Casey what about Dr Zorba ?
Richard Chamberlain as Dr. Kildare.
Robert Young as Marcus Welby M.D. with James Brolin as Dr Steven Kiley.
Medical Center with James Daly as Dr. Paul Lochner and Chad Everett as Dr. Joe Gannon.
1970 – 1983 M*A*S*H.
Doogie Howser, M.D. from 1989- 1993
Chicago Hope
General Hospital that's run forever ...
ER began 1994 … is it still running?
In Australia in the 70s The Young Doctors, in the 80s A Country Practice, in 2000 RPA.
Now TV brings us Hugh Laurie as House or the team from Scrubs … there’s enough hospital in both of those sitcoms to last a lifetime!
p.s. Thanks to Gill for the Greys Anatomy reminder ... how did I miss that one after Izzy's heartbreaking performance? Thanks too to Paisley - I don't remember getting St. Elsewhere in Australia ... but then I was elsewhere in those days!!

A post that moves from heartbreaking to funny in the blink of...nice one!
good god girl... you missed st elsewhere... my forever favorite hospital drama!!!!!
quirky hospital i know,,, but hospital none the less.....
I just realised that I never even thought of Grey's Anatomy when I read the prompt - weird that as I am a Grey's addict!
I'm with Paisley. St. Elsewhere was a great show. ER is still on, but they've been going through the motions for years. Grey's Anatomy is becoming boring and predictable as well.
I wonder why so many soap operas are centered around hospitals. The only thing less appealing than doctors getting it on is lawyers in love.
TV hospital memories are always better than real life ones. That is for sure.
Ahh yes, M*A*S*H, St. Elsewhere and the early years of ER. So much better than most of my real life hospital memories...
Great take on the prompt.
lol that's true, a lot of TV.
I think we can say that we are fortunate to have seen more hospitals on tv than on real life.
TV in this instance is far better than Reality TV. Yes.
Thanks Heaps to Gill, Paisley, Robin & Herb, I've updated the post!
OMG Dr Ben Casey....he was the George Clooney of the day.
Dr. Zorba loved his hair.
Watching hospitals on tv works for me. But real hospitals...a big no!
We watched Marcus Welby religiously. And Medical Center. And we watched Emergency! (about paramedics).
Later my dad wouldn't join us when we watched MASH. I think it brought with it too many memories of his experiences in WWII.
A whimsical tour of the tube's offerings. Strange what comes to mind when we let our minds lead the way.
I love MASH. Actually, I love Alan Alda, he's such a woman friendly guy!
